about me

Hello! My name is Jen and I am the face behind Kin Birthwork. I am a mum of one based in Lower Clapton, offering Birth and Postnatal doula support across East London. I feel like I have had a calling towards birth my entire life, and last summer I finally trained with Nurturing Birth.
I was incredibly fortunate to have the most magical home birth with my daughter; which I believe I owe in part to having a pandemic pregnancy where I had all the time in the world to educate myself on every aspect of birth. I want to share my knowledge and support others to approach birth with excitement over fear.
Of course, birth doesn't always go to plan and it's certainly not always euphoric! There can be many twists and turns along the way, but it's important that you know your rights and that you can make decisions that you feel good about. Knowing that you were able to make choices that were right for you and your baby at the time is what makes for a positive birth experience.

I consider my role to be to provide you with the information you need to prepare your mind and body for birth. I won't advise or make decisions for you, but I will support you to make informed decisions that are right for you. There is no 'right' way to do it.
I support all births - if after exploring all of your options you decide that an elective caesarean birth is for you, then I will unequivocally support you through every stage. I want you to feel *ready* to birth your baby and for you to reflect on your birth knowing that you felt in control.
A little more about me...
I grew up in Glasgow, but have been in London for the last 10 years. I studied Economics at Edinburgh University before taking a grad job in a bank (which was definitely not for me!). I left to nanny for my aunt's newborn and ended up looking after her until she was 5 (and I was 36 weeks pregnant). Birthwork is my passion and I absolutely adore being in this space.

My little love and I live with our Romanian rescue dog and 2 cats. I love animals - when my daughter was born we had 3 dogs and 4 cats! We are all super keen on the outdoors, and I also like to run and practice yoga. I love to travel too - I took my daughter travelling around South East Asia last year for 2.5 months.

My ray of sunshine has 2 mums and was conceived via Reciprocal IVF. I am therefore acutely aware of the barriers that anyone going through fertility treatment faces; particularly those within the LGBTQ+ community.
